The school's history

The Bilingual Montessori School of St Cloud was founded by Anne BICKERT. Born in 1929, Anne BICKERT was 13 when she saw her relatives being deported. From this ordeal, she developed a deep humanism and a boundless will.

At first, a French teacher for foreigners at the Sorbonne, she founded a language school in St Cloud and then immediately after, in 1972, a Montessori kindergarten for the children of foreign students.

In 1986, she opened a primary school : sharing a lot of values with the Department of Education (secularism, respect for differences), she nevertheless perceived the limits of the system (too many children in the classes, fixed methods, often passive children) and invented over the years a different pedagogy aimed primarily at developing the child’s autonomy.

For the sake of independence, the Bilingual Montessori School of St Cloud has always been a private school and works without any subsidies.

Anne BICKERT passed away in 2006. Today the school is directed by Anne-Marie Bickert, her daughter-in-law.
